Driving the old lab chevette after my freshman year at Bard I went to the NW, down the coast, seeing friends & fam, and then LA and from there to Las Vegas (I was reading Hunter S Thompson). I think it was actually after LV on a long long lonely road headed vaguely east that I stopped for gas and experienced what you just wrote. Silence. My boots in the gravel were the only sound to be heard from horizon to horizon. I remember it vividly to this day. Several years later I had a similar experience, near the same area on a MC trip that took my through monument valley.
Glad you found it all so inspiring.
CRSAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758892805199200686.post-32227788662914506232011-03-02T14:32:08.750-08:002011-03-02T14:32:08.750-08:00You should know, Wixy! You should know, Wixy!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04898928150200671599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758892805199200686.post-75275969046509922662011-03-02T13:59:59.096-08:002011-03-02T13:59:59.096-08:00I love the pre-dawn lighting, that anticipatory gl...I love the pre-dawn lighting, that anticipatory glow that seems to rise from the earth itself...

Biking Death Valley.... sounds scary.

ASWAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1758892805199200686.post-67089753545792001252011-03-01T15:39:13.542-08:002011-03-01T15:39:13.542-08:00Helen, I enjoy your pictures and blog so much!
